City of God? Judaism, Christianity and Islam in the Public Square

The Second Veritas Forum at the University of Oxford

Thursday 7 May, 2009
7.30 pm at the Sheldonian Theatre

A conversation on God, man, and politics, featuring:

Rabbi Dr Naftali Brawer, Head of Jewish-Muslim Relations for the Chief Rabbi of the UK

Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, Bishop of Rochester

Dr Tariq Ramadan, Professor of Islamic Studies, University of Oxford

Summary of the event:

The relationship between religion and the public square is among the most charged issues of our day. The Abrahamic faiths – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, which together account for more than half the world’s population – approach this relationship in distinct and innovative ways. What are their differences? Their similarities? And is there room for collaboration in an increasingly secular society? In the second Veritas Forum at the University of Oxford, distinguished representatives of the three traditions will offer their view on God, man and politics, and why it should matter to us.

Free and open to the public
